Windsor Court Hotel

by  Anne Roderique-Jones | Mar 22, 2019

There is no shortage of hotel options in New Orleans. In fact, it seems that there's a new property popping up each week. But none are like the Windsor Court Hotel. Located in the city's Central Business District, the regal hotel was built in 1984 and recently underwent a $15 million property renovation. From the guest rooms to the stately  ballroom, it's all been refreshed. Here’s what we saw.

The Basics

Budget Level: Upscale ($250-$300-plus/night)

Lodging Type: Large Hotel (300+ rooms)

What You Need to Know

The Look

The recent refurbishment was made to give a fresh and modern look to all 316 guest rooms and suites with new furnishings and amenities such as regal living and dining room chairs, custom-designed coffee tables, handsome leather headboards with reading lights, Tempur-Pedic sleeper sofas (a thoughtful touch for extra guests), and bedside tables with convenient charging stations (a must, right?). The new color scheme feels stately and fresh. Another touch that we love: Additional mini-refrigerators that were installed to accommodate leftovers from the copious dining outings that are synonymous with a New Orleans vacation.

In addition, there's been a total refresh to the Club Level Lounge and La Chinoiserie, the ballroom on the hotel’s top floor with amazing views, along with a grand opening of Waterman Poolside Bar.

The Vibe

Guests of all types come through the doors of this property, and it's a favorite among locals for themed afternoon tea (think St. Patty's or LGBTea) and evening cocktails. On our visit, we spotted a few very well-heeled travelers with expensive luggage and a mother-daughter duo lounging by the heated rooftop pool.

Who Will Love It

This hotel is large enough and well-stocked to suit everyone from families (the holiday tea is a favorite), to honeymooners, to even business travelers.

Who Might Not

This isn't one of the new hipster properties of NOLA. Those seeking rooftop parties and in-room record players should seek out a different hotel.

Best Amenity

The serene rooftop swimming pool provides much-needed respite in New Orleans' heat (plus, there's a brand new bar), but it's the Grill Room that truly stands out. In a city with a plethora of dining options, you'll want to book a table at this restaurant for a special occasion dinner. Start with the fried oysters and foie gras with mini beignets, and choose any seasonal seafood for an entrée (which start at $36). Summons sommelier Bill for a wine pairings and an experience you won't regret. After dinner, head to the Polo Club Lounge for live jazz and a nightcap. However, if you're looking to score some extra savings and added value, consider visiting the Grill Room during the week and order from their plate lunch menu, which costs $19.84 (a nod to the property's opening), and includes one main and three sides, as well as $2 martinis made with either Tito's vodka or Plymouth gin.

How to Get a Deal

Stay during the steamy summer months  the city’s slowest season  when rooms at this property can dip to around $250 per night (you can also expect credits and amenities). Currently, the hotel is offering two packages: the Easter Jazz Brunch Package and the Suite Spring Package.
